Know Why listed Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 Best Laptop For Gaming
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 is more neatly designed than some of the gaming laptops we’ve seen. Rather than being festooned with glowing lights and buttons .the Y580 certainly doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap. It weighs 6.2 pounds — almost half a pound less than the Blade — but is nearly twice as thick at 1.4 inches.
The IdeaPad Y580 certainly performs well, and gaming enthusiasts will find a lot to keep them happy. It has a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M graphics processor, and completed our Dirt Showdown benchmark test effortlessly, producing a supremely smooth average frame rate of 64.1fps on High quality settings at a 1,280x720 resolution. Unfortunately, you’ll have to reduce graphics quality settings if you want to play games at its native 1,920x1,080 resolution. We could only achieve a similar average frame rate at this higher resolution by lowering the graphics quality settings to Medium, where it scored 56.8fps.
Serious gamers who want the highest frames rates and graphics details all at full-HD resolution will prefer a dedicated gaming laptop that has a more powerful graphics card. However, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 works very well as an all-round multimedia and entertainment system that can also handle some casual gaming action when it required.

Thanks to the 16GB SSD, the machine boots in 23 seconds and wakes in two, and will likely be even faster on Windows 8. The laptop lasted for a respectable 4 hours and 45 minutes during the Verge Battery Test, outstripping the other machines in this roundup by about half an hour. You’ll need to remain tethered to an outlet in order to play most games, though, since the Y580 throttles its graphics performance when running on battery.
Its battery life is pretty average, which is to be expected from a high-powered gaming laptop. It lasted four hours and 54 minutes in our light use test with the screen set to half brightness, which is better than a lot of general-purpose laptops we've seen.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 is a powerful gaming laptop, but it faces some strong competition. The Ultimate award-winning MSI GE60 is more expensive, but it's more powerful and uses one of Intel’s 4th-generation Haswell processors. However, if you don't want to spend that much the IdeaPad Y580 is a good choice.
