The Reasons to unselect Toshiba Qosmio X870 Best Laptop For Gaming

Laptops in Toshiba’s Qosmio line have always had unique designs. . the X870 is made of a thin, brittle material that feels like cheap plastic and the whole machine seems fragile, especially the flimsy lid and screen.

Toshiba has kitted the Qosmio X870 out with an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3610QM CPU with a speed of 2.3GHz that can be overclocked to 3.3GHz.
On top of that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M graphics card will give you 3GB of dedicated video memory on top of the 3GB already provided by the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 chip.
Moreover, there's a massive 16GB of RAM keeping the operation as smooth as possible.
And, because the native resolution is a pin-sharp 1,920 x 1,080, you'll be able to enjoy all your gaming in Full 1080p High Definition. The way that nature intended.
Alongside the Full HD resolution, the 17.3-inch screen on the Toshiba Qosmio X870 is also extremely bright.

The Games in  Qosmio series can be played in 3D. Some games provide an excellent experience thanks to the 3D functionality while others should be played without the effect. For instance, Diablo 3 is especially fun to play with 3D glasses. Everything looks more realistic and the names of the characters as well as the description of the items "reach out" to the viewer. Gamers who want maximum performance will push the Qosmio to its limits.  More details will be available in the subsequent sections.

Batman(Arkham City).............................................. Skyrim

    FPS

90..........................Med......................70

Metro 2033..................The Witcher 2

Diablo III.................. Battlefield 3

    FPS

59........................Ultra...................20
116........................High...................43
Not Played..........................Med....................Not Played

As a gaming machine, this does exactly what it's supposed to. We could not only play Battlefield at full-detail settings, but also engage the 3D setting and blast away in a whole extra dimension.

We also liked that fact that Toshiba has upped each of the USB ports to USB 3.0 – a decision that lets us use the latest gaming peripherals at top speed to help improve the experience.
Special mention must also go to the 17.3-inch screen, managing to be crisp and bright enough to enjoy even with dimmed 3D specs on.

The Qosmio is a fine gaming laptop, and choosing between this and the G75VW is going to come down to personal preference and your wallet. While the Toshiba is 1kg lighter and features speedier hard drives, it costs AU$500 more, loses the Thunderbolt/DisplayPort option and has a gloss screen. Our benchmarks do show better gaming performance, but we suspect this to be due to updated drivers.

The X870 also has the worst battery life of the lot, making it just one hour and eighteen minutes into the Verge Battery test before dying altogether.

Battery life isn’t necessarily a deciding point for gamers who will spend most of their time rooted to an outlet, but it is worth nothing that this machine won’t even make it through an average college class.

wrap up

Although it’s the lightest machine in this tier of the roundup, it feels cheap and brittle rather than well-made and sturdy. In addition, the X870’s heating problems make it uncomfortable and potentially dangerous to game for any extended period of time. Even though the machine’s gaming performance is generally solid, these problems combined with the computer’s general sluggishness — due to bloatware or the lack of an SSD — mean that the Qosmio X870 isn’t the best machine for your hard-earned dollar.
